Dobita: Sugosugi, do you ever get tired of studying? I mean, don’t you want to just chase a squirrel or something instead?
Sugosugi: (smiling) Sometimes. But I like to learn. Today I read about a new kind of submersible that can explore deep oceans. It helps scientists interact with sea life.
Dobita: Wow… I didn’t even finish my homework. I always feel like I’m dragging myself through the day.
Sugosugi: You just need to find something that makes your heart circulate with excitement. Learning can be fun, Dobita.
Dobita: But I always get in trouble… and sometimes I even try to deceive the teacher. I’m not proud of it.
Sugosugi: It’s okay to make mistakes. But don’t let them defeat you. Even very fertile soil needs care to grow flowers.
Dobita: I spilled my drink on my notebook this morning… My whole page was soaked with the beverage.
Sugosugi: (laughs gently) That happens to me too. We’re not so different, you and I. We’re more alike than you think.
Dobita: You’re just being nice. You’re smart, and I’m just… me.
Sugosugi: No. The likelihood of success is higher when you try your best every day. I study not because I’m perfect, but because I want to be better.
Dobita: I guess I can try too. Even if the world feels vicious sometimes… I want to fight back with effort.
Sugosugi: That’s the spirit. Let’s walk home. But be careful not to drag your bag again—you always tear it!
Dobita: (laughs) Okay, okay! I’ll be careful this time. Thanks, Sugosugi.

場面：放課後の校庭。大きな木の下で。どび太は疲れている様子。スゴ杉は理科の本を読んでいる。
どび太： スゴ杉くん、勉強に疲れたりしないの？リスでも追いかけたくならない？
スゴ杉：（微笑んで）たまにはね。でも、学ぶのが好きなんだ。今日は新しいタイプの潜水艇について読んだよ。海の生物と交流するのに役立つんだ。
どび太： すごいな…僕は宿題も終わってないよ。毎日だらだら過ごしてる気がする。
スゴ杉： 君の心がワクワクする何かを見つければいいんだよ。学ぶことも楽しいよ、土比（どび）くん。
どび太： 僕、よく先生をだまそうとするんだ…。自分でも情けなくなる。
スゴ杉： 間違えるのはいいことだよ。でも、それに負けないで。どんなに肥えた土も、花を咲かせるには手入れが必要なんだ。
どび太： 今朝、ノートに飲み物をこぼしちゃってさ…ページが全部ぐしょぐしょ。
スゴ杉：（優しく笑って）僕もそういうことあるよ。僕たち、そんなに似てないわけじゃないさ。
どび太： スゴ杉くんは優しいよ。君は賢いし、僕はただの僕。
スゴ杉： ちがうよ。成功の可能性は、毎日頑張ることで高まるんだ。僕が勉強するのは完璧だからじゃなくて、もっとよくなりたいからだよ。
どび太： そうか…世界がいじわるに感じる時でも、努力で立ち向かいたいな。
スゴ杉： その気持ち、大切だよ。さあ、一緒に帰ろう。でも、またカバンを引きずらないようにね。よく破れてるじゃないか。
どび太：（笑いながら）わかったよ〜！今日は気をつける。ありがとう、スゴ杉くん！
